In the peaceful surroundings of Bredasdorp, in South Africa’s Overberg region, lies Blomkloof Trust: a family-run farm that has been cultivating the native fynbos for more than fifty years. Fynbos is a unique group of flowering shrubs found only in South Africa, celebrated for its rich diversity and natural beauty. The name Blomkloof means “flower valley” in Afrikaans and perfectly reflects the landscape of valleys and riverbeds surrounding the farm.
Andre Brink, owner and farm manager, grew up among the flowers of Blomkloof. From a young age, he helped out on the farm and learned the importance of working in harmony with nature. Although Blomkloof Trust was officially established in 2014, the farm is built on generations of experience in growing fynbos. “I grew up on this land, and it taught me everything, especially the importance of working with nature, not against it,” André says. Today, Blomkloof produces a variety of varieties (including proteas, leucadendrons, leucospermums, and Cape greens) but one stands out above all: Berzelia Albiflora.
Albiflora is a wild, character-rich fynbos species that transforms through four natural stages, from youthful green stems to white, crown-like flowerheads in full maturity. Because each stage reveals a different personality of the plant, Albiflora can be used across much of the year.
Its four growth stages are:
At Blomkloof Trust, everything revolves around quality and care for both people and the environment. The farm is SIZA-certified, meeting South Africa’s highest standards for labor practices and environmental management. This certification highlights Blomkloof’s commitment to following strict guidelines for fair working conditions, responsible water and soil management, biodiversity protection, and long-term sustainability.”
Andre and his team work closely together, and the farm follows a systematic workflow that begins at the seed stage: every new plant is monitored and cared for throughout its entire growth cycle. This long-term, hands-on approach is part of what makes the farm unique. “Our strength here lies in teamwork,” says Andre. “Everyone plays an important role in this process. Together, we make sure every product leaving Blomkloof meets highest standards of quality.” Albiflora remains one of the farm’s most valued products, not only for its market appeal, but because it represents the heart of their identity.
In the coming years, Blomkloof aims to expand its product range, strengthen partnerships with international buyers, and bring Albiflora to an even wider market.
By continuing to invest in quality control, certification, and marketing, the farm wants Albiflora to remain a true symbol of reliability, beauty, and sustainability.
For Andre and his team, that commitment is lived every day and shared with pride: “Albiflora is the heart of our farm. It’s strong, reliable, and beautiful; just like we strive to be” Andre adds with a smile.
